Rich Barter appointed as Federation 2 team coach
Rotorua United announce the appointment of Rich Barter as Federation 2 team coach for the 2012 season. Rich will be joined by Ray Wells, in his capacity as coach, and Noreen Wells will be continuing in her role as team manager.
Rich brings a decade of coaching experience to the position; this includes coaching experience in the UK up to semi-professional standard, academy work with both NZ Football Development Programmes and the Coerver Academy and a season of managing the Rotorua United Fed 1 side in 2009. Rich holds his UEFA B coaching licence.
On his appointment, Rich said: "Firstly, I'm delighted Ray has joined me in what promises to be a very exciting project. I think this is going to be a great working relationship and the players are going to be the beneficiaries of that. On the footballing side, if I didn't believe it was possible to create something special here, I wouldn't have taken the role.
I'm here to work with the players on the training ground to develop them and produce a side based on a clear understanding of roles, a 'team' ethic and maximizing each players strengths within that team. I want Fed 2 to set the benchmark this season for what professionalism looks like and to start with this might be a shift in culture. In return, the players can expect a coach who invests a lot of time in them and gives everyone a fair opportunity. Players who work hard and are keen to learn are going to thrive in this environment. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Note to players: There are two friendlies on Sat 3rd March; Fed 1 are travelling to Tauranga and Fed 2 are at home to Whakatane Bay 1. The squad Neil Rush selects for the Fed 1 match will be to evaluate certain players in the Fed 1 set up. This should mean any players trying-out for Fed 2 will equally be given the opportunity of playing time, against Bay 1 opposition. Following these matches, on Tuesday 6th March, the squads for the forthcoming season will be announced at training. From this session onward, squads will train separately in preparation for their own games.
